You can’t take an opportunity you don’t get.
Oregon’s education system has been shackled, especially in rural Oregon, by the provisions from Measures 5, 47, and 50 — from the 1990s.
Smaller parts of the state with lower property values suffer under the “cap and cut” situation that has our tax value growth stuck in 1995. We need a modern tax code.
More importantly, K-12 class sizes need to be reduced, 9-12 grades need to be aligned with community colleges to prepare students for the Oregon Promise. Also, community colleges need to have an audit of their articulation and alignment plans — as well as their budgets.
Community colleges need help now more than ever, and I intend to fix our budget so we can afford it.
